ATTORNEY CLE INFORMATION: FAQs

 

Has SPIEL been approved for CLE credit?

​

The Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education has approved the Southeastern Public Interest Environmental Law Conference for 12 obtainable continuing legal education credits, including 1.25 ethics credits. SPIEL will report CLE credit for TN attorneys ONLY. Attorneys from all other states must apply for CLE credit for SPIEL / report their attendance directly to their own state bars, per the instructions below (Alabama attorneys must self-report only).Find more information about CLE credit for SPIEL and all forms at: https://www.spielconference.net/cle-credit

 

Do I need to pay for CLE? 

 

  1. Attorneys seeking CLE credit from any state must register for SPIEL and pay for CLE registration: https://www.spielconference.net/cle-registration

 

  1. Attorneys from states other than TN may also be charged a small application fee or CLE fees from their home state bars as a part of the CLE reporting process. 

 

How do I report my CLE credits? 

 

SPIEL will report CLE credit for TN attorneys ONLY.  If you are a Tennessee Bar Member, you must complete and submit the online Certificate of Attendance form by October 15, 2025. A copy will be emailed to you. SPIEL will then report your CLE hours to the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education on your behalf.  The ONLINE CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE form is available at this link and the QR code below: https://form.jotform.com/252613221459049

Attorneys from AL, KY, NC, MS, GA, and all other states must self-report their CLE to their home state bars, per the instructions below. The above online reporting form is available for your use and will calculate your total CLE hours. A copy of the form will be emailed to you, so it may also be used by attorneys from other states to self-report. If you are self-reporting and need a PDF COPY OF A CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE, one is available here for you to download and submit to your state bar:

How do I apply for CLE credits and report my CLE hours for other states? 

 

Attorneys from states other than TN must apply for CLE credit for SPIEL/report their attendance directly to their own state bars, per the instructions below:

 

ALABAMA: No application is needed for AL; Alabama has already approved SPIEL for 12 obtainable CLE credits, including 1.25 ethics. However, AL attorneys must self-report attendance to receive CLE credit by emailing a copy of the Certificate of Attendance form and the CLE Evaluation form to Cathy Sue McCurry (cathysue.mccurry@alabar.org) at the Alabama State Bar. If you have any questions about this process or need help self-reporting, feel free to reach out to Jack West at jwest@alabamarivers.org and put “SPIEL CLE” in the subject line. If you are teaching a CLE or serving on a panel at SPIEL, you can receive 6 hours of CLE credit for each hour you teach (AL MCLE Regulation 3.2). In order to receive teacher credit, when you self-report, please describe the session you taught or panel you served on in your email to Cathy Sue McCurry and attach the written materials prepared for the session. 

 

GEORGIA: Georgia attorneys can request approval for CLE by filling out the Request by a Member of the State Bar of Georgia for Approval of a Continuing Legal Education Activity form. There is no application fee. There is a course fee of $4 per CLE hour for hours added to your CLE transcript, which can be paid online when reviewing your CLE status report once hours have been credited. KENTUCKY: Kentucky attorneys can request approval for CLE by filling out KBA Form 1 and paying a $20 fee. If you have questions regarding CLE credit for Kentucky, please direct your questions to Ashley Wilmes at ashley@kyrc.org and include in the subject line: “SPIEL CLE KY.”

 

MISSISSIPPI: For Mississippi, you will need to file the form MISSISSIPPI APPLICATION FOR ACCREDITATION OF CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION with the Mississippi Commission for Continuing Legal Education. The attorney is responsible for paying $2 per hour of requested CLE.  With the form, the attorney must submit the Agenda, Course Materials, and a Certificate of Attendance. NORTH CAROLINA: For NC attorneys, attendees will file the form at this link with the North Carolina State Bar to apply for CLE credit; whereas teachers will also need to submit the additional form at this link to obtain teacher credit. The attorney is responsible for paying a $25 application fee to the North Carolina State Bar for their bar member’s application for CLE credit. Along with your application/s and fee, you must also submit the conference Agenda (found here), and the course materials (found at the presentation handouts link on page 3 of the Agenda – see link above) for any ethics CLE for which you are claiming credit.
